She was struck by the difficulty of trying to give time effectively in needy communities within the confines of the typically rushed American lifestyle. Over the years, together with a group of like-minded individuals with backgrounds in medicine, construction, sustainability and communications, she helped to co-found Globe Aware. The objective was to allow busy Westerners a forum for giving their time in an organized fashion in a way that was significantly meaningful and fun for the recipient communities and for the volunteer. Haley-Coleman holds an MBA in International Business from the University of Dallas, where she graduated with Highest Honors, she is a recipient of the Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship Award, has an M.A. from Southern Methodist University and a B.A. from Emory University. She currently serves on the Boards of a number of organizations, including the Executive Committee for IVPA (International Volunteer Porgram Association). Haley-Coleman also serves on the Board of Groundwork Dallas, a grassroots effort to sponsor and coordinate community based environmental improvement projects in economically challenged areas, is President of Dallas’ Shore Acres Beautification Club, and is also the Leadership Member for Service Nation, an initiative that strives to increase service & volunteer opportunities for Americans.Jennifer BohmeTreasurerSteve AtamianSecretary | Pure Nomad – Cross Cultural Solutions ~ Steve Atamian is the co-founder and Chief Empowerment Officer of Global Brigades. Since 2004, he has been responsible for developing and expanding the business model and growth strategy for the international association. Under his leadership, more than 30,000 university students and professionals have mobilized to support communities in Central America and Ghana; starting with just one student chapter in 2004. From 2004-2008, Steve led Global Brigades as a volunteer while employed full-time with Deloitte & Touche USA, where he worked to help design and implement their corporate social responsibility strategy in the Pacific Southwest region. In 2011, Steve co-founded Empowered.org, a “social movement platform” that has registered nearly 300 participating organizations across the world, fundraising more than $30 million dollars for their respective initiatives.Pallav VoraGlobal Brigades ~ Pallav is the Chief Legal Officer for Global Brigades, and oversees and provides legal support to all Global Brigades entities worldwide. Since joining Global Brigades full-time in 2012, Pallav has served as Global Brigades’ General Counsel and has worked closely with the leadership of all Global Brigades entities to strengthen operations by assessing and managing risk, implementing appropriate practices and controls, and providing advice and counsel on a broad range of legal issues critical to the organization’s mission. Pallav also sits on the Board of Directors of Global Brigades Ventures. Prior to joining Global Brigades, Pallav practiced law in Chicago for 4 years where he worked as a litigator on a wide-variety of civil and criminal matters in both state and federal courts, including administrative hearings, civil rights litigation, personal injury, appeals and criminal defense. Pallav graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in Political Science, and received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois.Fiona LallyRasenna Consulting, Inc. ~ Fiona Lally is the president of Rasenna Consulting, Inc., a risk management consulting firm based in New York for nonprofit and international travel-based organizations. Fiona started her insurance career as a broker at Lloyd’s of London. When she returned to the US, she worked in insurance and reinsurance brokerage at the national firms of Guy Carpenter, Marsh & McLennan, and Rollins Burdick Hunter (now known as Aon Risk Services). Her areas of expertise include international insurance, volunteer insurances, crisis management, and specialty accident and health insurance programs. She created Core Travel Insurance, a specialty travel medical program for international organizations with a risk management emphasis. Fiona also serves on a volunteer basis as the President of Grow the Valley, a community development organization. She also volunteers as Vice President of the Shaker Swamp Conservancy. Fiona holds an honors degree from Brown University in Classical Archaeology.Steven C. RosenthalChair Emeritus | Cross-Cultural Solutions ~ Steve was born in New York, and attended George Washington University and the University of Colorado. He founded Cross-Cultural Solutions in 1995, and as its director, has traveled extensively throughout the world making frequent trips to the field. He has worked with at-risk youth in the United States and been a consultant for numerous international volunteering organizations in the domestically and abroad. An expert in his field, Steve has been invited to speak at the U.N. on Non-Governmental Organizations and gender issues. He is on the Executive Committee of the International Volunteer Programs Association and is the Chairman of the Building Bridges Coalition, a project of the Brookings Institution focused on expanding international volunteer service, improving service quality, and ensuring positive impacts in communities throughout the world. Steve also serves on the advisory boards of More Peace Corps, Atlas Corps, and Global Citizen Year. He co-chairs the National Summit for Global Citizen Diplomacy Task Force on Voluntary International Service, and serves on the Roundtable Consortium for the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange.IVPA Member OrganizationsAmerican Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad (AYUDA)Established in 1996, AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad, Inc.) is a non- profit volunteer-based organization that empowers youth to serve as agents of social change in diabetes communities throughout the world. AYUDA is dedicated to supporting local diabetes communities develop and implement sustainable programs throughout the world. AYUDA’s innovative peer learning model uses international volunteers as catalysts for motivating local youth living with diabetes to live happy and healthy lives. Globe Aware expeditions provide volunteers the opportunity to live and work side by side with a host community. The hosts provide a safe and interesting setting in which to learn, help, and have fun. The volunteers help to empower the host communities in creating renewable, self-sufficient programs.
