Its members include representatives of general farm organizations, national commodity groups, processing and marketing groups, agricultural lenders and the United States Department of Agriculture. The Committee was formed to assist the Commission in obtaining information, advice and recommendations from agricultural producers, processors, lenders and others interested in or affected by the agricultural futures and options markets and to serve as a channel of communication between the Commission and the many agricultural and agriculture-related organizations. The Committee acomplishes its purpose by appointing as members persons from a broad cross-section of the agricultural industry who meet as the need arises and whose knowledge and experience qualify them to contribute to Committee tasks. 78d4c946-cfc5-4b4f-b238-3d1061ea24f8 Committee's focus for 2011 was primarily to obtain the views of agricultural futures market experts, national farm organizations, major commodity and agribusiness groups and the farm banking community regarding pending rulemakings. To that end, a major meeting was convened in May 2011. The major topics for discussion were issues related to the Dodd-Frank Act, including position limits, hedge exemptions, the swap dealer definition, the end user exception and margin requirements for uncleared swaps. The AAC also received a presentation on recent activities in the major agricultural markets. e03f8581-f210-404a-9dfb-f65a80c555e3 As the exclusive regulator of agricultural futures markets, the Commission has determined that it is necessary to obtain advice on issues impacting those affected by these markets and to facilitate communications between the Commission and the diverse agricultural and agriculture-related organizations represented on the Committee. The Commission has found that the most efficient and thorough means of obtaining such advice and facilitating such communications is through the current Advisory Committee framework, since, among other things, it would be difficult to assemble a cross-section of persons that represent such a wide variety of agricultural organizations by other means.
