The Council will 1. solicit ideas from across the country about how to bolster the economy and the prosperity of the American people, 2. report directly to the President on the design, implementation, and evaluation of policies to promote the growth of the American economy, enhance the skills and education of Americans, maintain a stable and sound financial and banking system, create stable jobs for American workers, and improve the long term prosperity and competitiveness of the American people; and 3. provide analysis and information with respect to the operation, regulation, and healthy functioning of the economy and other factors that may contribute to the sustainable growth and competitiveness of American industry and the American labor force. Additionally, the Council will conduct business outreach to gather intelligence on market and economic trends, lead outreach efforts with members of Congress and the Chamber of Commerce, and conduct periodic regional meetings with both public and private sector representatives. 78d4c946-cfc5-4b4f-b238-3d1061ea24f8 The Council has pursued a three-phase approach to its work: catalyzing job growth by capturing “low-hanging fruit” over the short-term; focusing on broader ways to accelerate job creation while also lifting U.S. competitiveness over the next two to five years; and developing proposals on the broader factors influencing American competitiveness over the next five to 10 years. In December, the Council delivered a year-end report addressing the broader factors that underpin national competitiveness. Our plan will be to sound the alarm. In an era of global economic competition, America’s future prosperity and the strength of our middle class require us to be far more strategic and effective when it comes to the key determinants of economic strength: education and training; respect for workers’ rights; tax policy; energy policy; research and development; manufacturing prowess; fiscal and financial stability; and more.
