Deliberation requires open spaces for citizens to come together, good and fair information to help structure the conversation and skilled facilitators to guide the process. The CPD is dedicated to providing these three key ingredients to Northern Colorado.</Description><OtherInformation>As an impartial resource, we’re able to assist local government, schools, and community organizations in problem-solving key issues. This means we start by researching and developing useful background material. Then we work with partners to invite those affected by the issue into the room. Our students are trained in small group facilitation and guide participants through these sometimes difficult conversations. From designing to facilitating to reporting on innovative public events, we rely on contemporary, relevant research from the fields of deliberation and communication studies.</OtherInformation><StrategicPlanCore><Organization><Name>Center for Public Deliberation</Name><Acronym>CPD</Acronym><Identifier>_0c0b9b16-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><Description/><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Organization"><Name>Colorado State University</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Northern Colorado</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Local Governments</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Schools</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Community Organizations</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>CPD Staff</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Person"><Name>Martín Carcasson, Ph.D.</Name><Description>Director | Martín Carcasson, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Communication Studies department of Colorado State University, and the founder and director of the CSU Center for Public Deliberation (CPD). Each year, we welcome a new group of 10-15 students to our crew of trained facilitators. Every CPD student receives a semester of hands-on training to help them understand the deliberative process and learn how to make interventions. Once students complete their first semester, they begin practicum hours where they facilitate local projects. The CPD is an interdisciplinary organization and recruits exemplary students from across disciplines, including biomedical science, business, psychology, history, and more. From day one, this allows students to learn alongside a set of diverse perspectives.</Description></Stakeholder></Organization><Vision><Description>Local democracy is enhanced</Description><Identifier>_0c0b9c88-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier></Vision><Mission><Description>To improve public communication and community problem-solving</Description><Identifier>_0c0b9df0-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier></Mission><Value><Name>Democracy</Name><Description/></Value><Value><Name>Locality</Name><Description/></Value><Value><Name>Deliberation</Name><Description/></Value><Value><Name>Information</Name><Description/></Value><Value><Name>Facilitation</Name><Description/></Value><Goal><Name>Civic Culture</Name><Description>Enhance the local civic culture</Description><Identifier>_0c0b9eea-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/><Objective><Name>Participation</Name><Description>Increase local participation in community problem solving</Description><Identifier>_0c0b9f8a-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>1.1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Politics</Name><Description>Decrease the sense of polarization, cynicism, and frustration with politics</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba020-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>1.2</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Deliberation</Name><Description>Help develop a civic habit of relying on deliberation to address local concerns</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba0ca-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>1.3</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective></Goal><Goal><Name>Decision-Making</Name><Description>Expand collaborative decision-making</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba16a-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>2</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/><Objective><Name>Interconnections</Name><Description>Promote interconnections between local government and citizens</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba20a-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>2.1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Local Governments</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Citizens</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Decision Making</Name><Description>Expand and improve the role of the public in decision-making processes</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba2aa-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>2.2</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Techniques</Name><Description>Help incorporate deliberative techniques in local institutions</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba368-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>2.3</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Local Institutions</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective></Goal><Goal><Name>Civic Education</Name><Description>Improve Civic Education</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba4f8-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>3</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation>Across K-12, higher education, and continuing education:</OtherInformation><Objective><Name>Citizenship</Name><Description>Study and improve methods of developing citizenship skills</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba5ca-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>3.1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Pedagogy</Name><Description>Incorporate deliberative pedagogy</Description><Identifier>_0c0ba67e-dadd-11eb-91fd-43f41983ea00</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>3.2</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective></Goal></StrategicPlanCore><AdministrativeInformation><StartDate/><EndDate/><PublicationDate>2021-07-01</PublicationDate><Source>https://cpd.colostate.edu/about-us/</Source><Submitter><GivenName>Owen</GivenName><Surname>Ambur</Surname><PhoneNumber/><EmailAddress>Owen.Ambur@verizon.net</EmailAddress></Submitter></AdministrativeInformation></PerformancePlanOrReport>
