The Committee has provided advice and support for the U.S. delegation''s continued participation in the IATTC's tuna management program, as well as the International Dolphin Conservation Program. The dolphin protection program has been highly successful in reducing dolphin mortalities in the tuna fishery of the eastern tropical Pacific to historically low levels. Using effort limitations, the tuna conservation program sets a limit on the total allowable catch of tuna which can safely be taken in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
