A Federal Register Notice dated December 6, 2010 solicited member nominations. After nominations were received, a member of the Secretary's staff proposed membership for each Advisory Committee that was representative of the above-named categories. A minor amount of attrition occurred before the first meeting was convened; new members were added that maintained the balance of committee membership. The committee accomplishes its purpose by participating in three meetings. At the first meeting members discussed their charge and agreed upon a data collection strategy. Before the second meeting, committee members contacted various groups of stakeholders to solicit information about technical assistance needs in the region and suggestions for addressing those needs. Members brought this information to the second meeting to discuss and begin to prioritize. Before the third meeting members continued to collect and collate data. At their third and final meeting members shared the additional data collected and began to draft a summary report of regional needs and ways to address them. 78d4c946-cfc5-4b4f-b238-3d1061ea24f8 A strategic initiative of the Agency is improving direct and Department-funded technical assistance.
