Therefore, its recommendations implicitly apply to EPA as well as other federal agencies. The GNEB supports both EPA’s mission and the Administrator’s priorities. It supports the protection of human health and the environment through providing recommendations on how the federal government can most effectively leverage its resources for maximum environmental protection along the U.S. border with Mexico. In addition, the GNEB holds meetings in border communities and hearing first-hand the concerns of community residents. Finally, through the diverse nature of its membership and the networks the members maintain, the GNEB is able to strengthen and build partnerships throughout the border region with multiple local and state stakeholders, federal agencies and Mexican sister agencies. To accomplish this task, the GNEB maintains a close working relationship with the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), the President’s environmental advisor. Within EPA, the GNEB maintains a relationship with the Agency’s Border 2020 Program, serving as both an information resource and as an objective provider of feedback. Recommendations for FY 2011 will be contained in the Fourteenth Report to the President and Congress. The report will be released in December 2011.
