Examples of the board's assistance during the past year include helping to evaluate and determine lessons learned from CDC's response to the H1N1 influenza outbreak; and providing expert advice and comment on OID's work to develop a strategic roadmap for prioritizing CDC's efforts to prevent and control infectious diseases (A CDC Framework for Preventing Infectious Diseases). The board has also provided timely advice to CDC in helping identify opportunities for advancing infectious disease prevention across a changing landscape for U.S. healthcare and the U.S. public health system occurring during challenging econominc times. The board provides advice concerning strategies, goals, and priorities for the programs and research within the national centers and monitors the overall strategic direction and focus of OID and the national centers. The board may also administer and oversee peer review of scientific programs.
