We believe that even with its shortcomings, the UN remains an indispensable tool in bringing together diverse nations and cultures. UN Watch is keenly aware that member states often ask the UN to fulfill mandates and tasks that are neither feasible nor within the means provided. While it would be unrealistic to ignore the UN's weaknesses, we advocate finding ways to build on its strengths and use its limited resources effectively. UN Watch is foremost concerned with the just application of UN Charter principles. Areas of interest include: UN management reform, the UN and civil society, equality within the UN, and the equal treatment of member states. UN Watch notes that the disproportionate attention and unfair treatment applied by the UN toward Israel over the years offers an object lesson (though not the only one) in how due process, equal treatment, and other fundamental principles of the UN Charter are often ignored or selectively upheld.</OtherInformation><Objective><Name>Management Reform</Name><Description>Reform management of the UN</Description><Identifier>_05c91b2d-ea7d-47d9-958a-459eaccec9b8</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Civil Society</Name><Description>Ensure appropriate engagement between the UN and civil society</Description><Identifier>_870c6a64-2862-4c7a-a45a-04c421edef22</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>2</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Civil Society</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Equality</Name><Description>Ensure equality within the UN</Description><Identifier>_88e4b485-d331-44b3-a92b-4e726d4b2939</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>3</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation/></Objective><Objective><Name>Member States</Name><Description>Ensure equal treatment of member states</Description><Identifier>_c29117a3-48a6-43c1-bcdc-30ef05552b32</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>3.1</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder><Name/><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation>UN Watch notes that the disproportionate attention and unfair treatment applied by the UN toward Israel over the years offers an object lesson (though not the only one) in how due process, equal treatment, and other fundamental principles of the UN Charter are often ignored or selectively upheld.</OtherInformation></Objective><Objective><Name>Human Rights &amp; Democracy</Name><Description>Bring together well-known human rights defenders, victims, activists and former political prisoners</Description><Identifier>_a999d9b2-b758-11e7-8f86-6f1d9742c8d9</Identifier><SequenceIndicator>4</SequenceIndicator><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>International NGOs</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Human Rights Defenders</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Human Rights Victims</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Human Rights Activists</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><Stakeholder StakeholderTypeType="Generic_Group"><Name>Former Political Prisoners</Name><Description/></Stakeholder><OtherInformation>UN Watch, together with 20 other international NGOs organizes each year the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy.
