Priority areas for the Mexico Institute include security and the rule of law, economic competitiveness and innovation, energy policy, borders, migration and education.Middle East ProgramThe Middle East Program focuses on the political, social, and economic developments in the Middle East and North Africa region, paying special attention to the shifting balance of power in the region as a result of the turmoil following the Arab Spring. It looks at democratic and autocratic tendencies in governance, sectarianism, the rise of extremist movements in the region, and the role of women and youth. The Program has well established series on Iran, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and gender.Global Sustainability and Resilience ProgramThe Global Sustainability and Resilience Program seeks to support the development of inclusive, resilient networks in local communities facing global change. By providing a platform for sharing lessons, mapping knowledge, and linking people and ideas, GSRP and its affiliated programs empower policymakers, practitioners, and community members to participate in the global dialogue on sustainability and resilience. HAPP consists of three main research components: The Cold War International History Project (CWIHP), The North Korea International Documentation Project (NKIDP), and the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project (NPIHP). A defining characteristic of HAPP's research is that it focuses on non-US perspectives on contemporary history -- this makes us an unparalleled resource for information on the mindsets, viewpoints, concerns and internal deliberations of US allies and adversaries alike.Polar InitiativeThe Polar Initiative convenes and fosters discussion, research, and programmatic activity on Arctic and Antarctic issues.
